So recently I have been on search of interesting subjects and the art of street photography. I think the ability to capture spontaneous moments and getting it right is one of the biggest achievements of a photographer. There could be that one defining photo that sets him/her apart from the rest. That one rare shot that could never be replicated ever again. Doesn't that just sound so amazing? Thats why I believe photography is such a powerful tool to convey a message, impact an audience that may change their life one way or another.
So recently one of my lenses actually died. It was my 17-85 kit lens and although it was a great walk around lens, the depth of field was not to my liking, not shallow enough, and I generally like shooting wide open to 2 stops down with a very shallow depth of field. Thats why when I walk around the city taking photos I have a fast prime. The cheapo EF Canon 50mm 1.8, a great lens for the price, but prepare to be ridiculed by devoted photography enthusiasts if they see you with that lens. For those people with a thick skin, its time to show what this lens can do, and believe me, the results still are very beautiful, so show those snobs who's boss.
For the past few months I have not had the opportunity to update my blog, I was overseas on my uni holidays and am now filled to the brim with assignments. But, I have still had the time almost every day to pick up my camera and take photos. I have started a project in which I experiment and analyse light and capture unique subjects each and every day. It is my photo-a-day project and so far is going well. I have been uploading my photos onto facebook and have been getting feedback which I am grateful for, it encourages me to continue, opens up my eyes to new scenes and challenges me to reach new potentials.
So lately I have been deeply inspired by the great legendary street photographer: Henri Cartier-Bresson. He to me was a pioneer to the concept of the decisive moment, his timing and composition really showed this beauty in his photos that to me are wildly inspirational. He has inspired me to not be afraid of facing a stranger head on, pointing my camera at them and taking a photo of them in their most spontaneous, natural and oblivious state. It looks so natural and beautiful and such moments deserve to be shared to the world. So here are a few shots I have taken recently from the city streets of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. I hope you all like :) Till next time!
